Birds of a Feather

When I was a boy, I was taught to be careful who I made friends with. You can influence your friends and your friends can have a large influence on you. “Birds of a feather flock together” was a common refrain explaining how people of like mind, character and action tend to become friends and work together. With that in mind, take a look at some of the friends of Democrat Party presidential nominee Barack Obama; they include terrorists, convicted criminals, anti-American radicals, and communists. These are not people that are just infrequent acquaintances of Obama, these are people he has worked closely with, some for as many as 20 years:

  • Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers
  • Convicted Real Estate Tycoon and Fundraiser Tony Rezko
  • Anti-American, Black Liberation Pastor Jeremiah Wright
  • Deposed Fannie Mae Executive Franklin Raines
  • Frank Marshall Davis of the Communist Party USA
  • Resigned and Imprisoned Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick

    Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers:
In 1970, Bill Ayers, along with his wife Bernadine Dohrn, were indicted for inciting a riot and conspiracy to bomb government buildings. Dohrn was convicted; Ayers was not. However, Ayers remains unrepentant, telling The New York Times in 2001, “I don’t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough.” In early 1995, Bill Ayers created a foundation called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, and Barack Obama became the chairman of the board of that foundation. Later that year, in Obama’s first political campaign, Barack held a campaign kickoff and fund-raiser at the home of Bill Ayers. –FOXNews Examines Barack’s Relationship With Bill Ayers

Convicted Real Estate Tycoon and Fundraiser Tony Rezko:
Antoin “Tony” Rezko is an American political fundraiser, restaurateur, and real estate developer in Chicago, Illinois. He was convicted of 16 federal charges in 2006 for using connections to the state boards to demand kickbacks from businesses that wanted to do business with the state. In 2008, Rezko was convicted on several more counts of fraud and bribery. In 2003, Rezko was on Obama’s U.S. Senate campaign finance committee, which raised more than $14 million. Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama, which was instrumental in providing Obama with seed money for his U.S. Senate race. Obama has since identified over $250,000 in campaign contributions coming from Rezko. In 2005 Obama purchased a new home in Chicago for $1.65 million, which was $300,000 below the asking price but, claims Obama, represented the highest offer on the property. On the same day, Rezko’s wife, Rita Rezko, purchased the adjoining empty lot from the same sellers for the full asking price. In 2006, Obama purchased a 10 foot wide strip of Ms. Rezko’s property for $104,500, more than twice the assessed value. Obama later acknowledged that the exchange may have created the appearance of impropriety, and said “I consider this a mistake on my part and I regret it.”

Anti-American, Black Liberation Pastor Jeremiah Wright:
I have previously detailed the relationship between Obama and Pastor Jeremiah Wright in my post entitled Barack Obama is Dangerous. But to recap, Obama was a member of his congregation for about 20 years. Wright married Obama and his wife and baptized their children. Wright, a pastor for Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, has made numerous outrageous and anti-American sermons and is known for following Black Liberation Theology.

Deposed Fannie Mae Executive Franklin Raines:
The connection between Barack Obama, Franklin Raines, and ACORN, the radical community activist group that has repeatedly been caught at voter fraud, including registering nonexistent people to vote.-Connect the Dots With Barack Obama,
Franklin Raines made $90 million while he was head of Fannie Mae. After mismanaging that institution into financial crisis, he was deposed as head of Fannie Mae. Liberal Democrats have defended Raines and refused to hold him accountable. Franklin Raines is now a consultant to the Obama campaign on housing of all things! –Do Facts Matter? By Thomas Sowell, National Review Online

Frank Marshall Davis, Communist Party USA:
Barack Obama has an admitted relationship with Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship with Davis, listening to his “poetry” and getting advice on his career path. Obama talks about this relationship with his friend “Frank” in more detail in his book, Dreams From My Father. –Obama’s Communist Mentor

Resigned and Imprisoned Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick:
Kilpatrick pleaded guilty in September to two felony charges, resigned, and accepted a 120-day jail sentence. On the stage together in May 2007, Kilpatrick introduced by Obama as a “great mayor.” Said Obama about Kilpatrick, “He is a leader not just here in Detroit, not just in Michigan, but all across the country,” an exuberant Obama said of Kilpatrick. “We know that he is going to be doing astounding things for many years to come. I am grateful to call him a friend and colleague, and I am looking forward to a lengthy collaboration.” –After Kilpatrick, GOP will seek to link Obama to Michigan’s poor governance.

  • Conclusion
Based on who Barack Obama chooses to associate with, learn from and go to for advice, I have serious concerns about his judgment and the direction he will take this country. Obama is clearly a far left leaning liberal who flirts with socialism that will destroy the freedoms we hold dear. If you are “hoping” for “change” with Barack Obama, you may get it and you will get it in the form of more dirty politics and more scandals than even the Clinton administration. You will get a country that will be changed into a socialist republic in the way Barack Obama and his buddies want to make it. And in the process, our freedoms will be eroded, taxes will be raised, our security will be compromised, and the prosperity this nation has always enjoyed will be in jeopardy.

    Barack Obama Is Dangerous

Not to re-hash old news (a very busy last few months has prevented me from staying current on my blog), but the more I learn about Barack Obama, the more dangerous I realize he is.

I heard this quote from Barack Obama only today. It’s a quote from his book, “Dreams from my Father”, where Obama quotes part of a Reverend Jeremiah Wright speech where he says that “white folk’s greed runs a world in need.” (Listen to the audio on YouTube). In this YouTube clip, Obama explains that the title of his book, the Audacity of Hope, was also inspired by the Rev. Wright. This is the same Rev. Wright who said the following:

  • A sermon in April 2003, Wright said: “The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes three-strike laws and wants them to sing God Bless America. No! No No! God damn America … for killing innocent people. God damn America for threatening citizens as less than humans. God damn America as long as she tries to act like she is God and supreme.”
  • In another speech, made in the days after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, Wright said, “We bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki. And we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye…We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because of stuff we have done overseas is now brought back into our own backyard. America’s chickens coming home to roost.”
  • The pastor has also said: “The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color.”

Outrageous stuff, and this was Barack Obama’s spiritual advisor for 20 years. He married Barack Obama and he baptized their kids, but now, conveniently, Obama has denounced the Reverend and separated himself from Wright. But that doesn’t change the fact that this pastor was a major influence on Obama and likely indicative of Barack’s own way of thinking.

On other, more recent news, Barack is again showing how dangerous he would be in the area of foreign policy. Early this week, on July 9, 2008, Fox News reported, “Iran launches nine long- and medium-range missiles, including one that could reach Israel, U.S. bases.” And right on queue, Obama was quoted the same day saying, “Iran is a grave threat. It has an illicit nuclear program. It supports terrorism across the region and militias in Iraq. It threatens Israel’s existence.” Fine and dandy, but this was not what Obama was saying just two months earlier. True to his campaign theme of “change”, he had a completely different stance in May 18, 2008 when Barack Obama said, “I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don’t pose a serious threat to us.”

So which is it Barack Obama, does Iran “not pose a serious threat” or is Iran “a grave threat”? I guess it all depends on which way the wind blows. This man would be a disaster as our president; he is dangerous, and I haven’t even touched on the danger posed by his liberal, big-government agenda. (We’ll save that for another day.)

  • The Race for President: My Selection Criteria

The first presidential primaries and caucuses will begin in just over a month (Iowa on Jan 3, 2008 and New Hampshire on Jan 8, 2008), and within three months, the Republican and Democrat presidential nominees will be known. While still early in the process, I want to let my presidential selection criteria be known and analyze how some of the major candidates measure up. In this post, I will lay out the criteria; in future posts, I will analyze how well prominent candidates’ policy and action meet those requirements.

    1. Strengthening the Family A president who will enact policies and make decisions that will strengthen the Family is the most important issue to me because, as you have seen in my previous posts, I believe that most of societal ills can be rooted back to a break down in traditional family values.
1A. Pro-Life/Anti-Abortion I want to elect a president who shares my belief that life is sacred from the moment it is conceived. Right now, the abortion policy in America is governed by the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v Wade decision, which I believe is bad law in itself and morally wrong as well. The way in which a president can influence this policy is through appointments to the Supreme Court.
1B. Pro-Traditional Marriage A major part of strengthening families is defending the traditional family structure: father, mother, children. Marriage, as defined by one man and one women, is under attack in America and certain government policies and programs, like welfare, have been known to undermine the role of the father in the home. A president who will defend the institution of marriage is critical.
    2. Defending Our Country To “provide for the common defense” is one of the constitutionally endowed duties of the federal government. A strong military and political sovereignty are necessary to do this. The president, who is also commander in chief of our armed forces, must have shown through word and deed, their ability to lead the defense of our nation.
2A. Defeating Terrorists The fight against global terrorism is an extremely important issue at this time. George Bush has done an excellent job in leading this war on many fronts: in Afghanistan, in Iraq, in de-funding terrorist organizations around the world. We need the next president to be equally tough and continue to fight and win this war.
2B. Protecting Our Borders Bush’s record on border security is, on the other hand, abysmal and we need our next president to take serious steps to secure our borders. Illegal immigrants, many of whom have criminal records and links to drug cartels and terrorist organizations, are pouring across our borders at the rate of nearly a million a year. Our nation cannot remain sovereign and secure if this influx continues.
    3. Free Market Economic Policy I’m not sure when the president of the United States became chief economist (maybe it was Bill Clinton’s “it’s the economy, stupid” comment in the 1992 presidential race), but regardless, the president is held accountable by the American people for economic policy and its success. I want to elect a president who believes, as I do, in free market economies and that capitalism works.
3A. Lower Taxes A key component of economic policy that I endorse is lowering taxes. Keeping taxes low is both morally right (not taking an individual’s hard earned money) and economically right (it spurs economic activity and fosters growth). It is important to elect a president who will support legislation to lower Americans’ tax burden, which now averages about 33% of their total income.
3B. Smaller Government Integral with economic policy and lower taxes is the need for smaller government. As the size of government shrinks, personal liberty increases. Having a government that is as small and un-intrusive as possible without also being impotent was a key issue for our founding fathers. Since that time, our government has grown to the point that it consumes more than 20% of our nation’s GDP. Now this is a tall order, but we need a president like Ronald Reagan who believes that “government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem.”

So in the next few days and weeks, I will analyze each of the major presidential candidates, their policies and actions in the areas outlined above. I will objectively score them against these criteria and in the process determine who I would select to receive my vote for the next president of the United States.

Please note that the list of criteria above is not meant to be exhaustive. If additional issues arise that I deem vitally important, I reserve the right to amend and update the list. If you, the reader, notice any gaping holes in my presidential selection criteria, please feel free to contact me.

The Price of Freedom and Democracy

I was listening to the Rush Limbaugh radio program yesterday and took particular note when he said, “if you put a limit on how much you will spend on freedom, you are going to lose it.” He was speaking in regards to the War in Iraq and those liberals and democrats constantly complaining about the amount of money our country is spending to defeat global terrorists and preserve our freedoms.

In and of itself, I thought the concept was profound: if you put a price on freedom, you will lose it. But in the context of having that quote in mind, I awoke this morning to the following headline NYU Students Would Sell Their Right to Vote for Free Tuition. I couldn’t help but laugh with incredulity.

    According to the poll:

  • 66% of NYU students would sell their right to vote in the next presidential election in exchange for a year’s tuition (about $30,000)
  • 20% said they’d exchange their vote for an iPod
  • 50% said they’d forfeit their right to vote forever for $1 million. It boggles the mind that individuals would so easily through away what our founding fathers fought to give us and what so many of forebearers have died to preserve.
